Terms of Service
Last updated: 14 June 2026
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Annanil Entertainment Ltd (“Annanil”, “we”, “us”, “our”), the company that operates History Check (“History Check” or “the App”). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Who We Are
History Check is operated by:
- Annanil Entertainment Ltd - a company registered in England & Wales.
- Company number - 17245210.
- Registered office - 5 Brayford Square, London, E1 0SG, United Kingdom.
- Contact - support@historycheck.app
We are not VAT-registered, so no VAT is charged on our prices.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
- You must be old enough to enter a binding contract and to meet the minimum age for data-protection consent where you live: at least 13 in the UK, or at least 16 in the EU unless your country sets a lower age (down to 13).
- You must provide a valid email address to create an account, and you are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
- You must not share your account, create multiple accounts to evade limits, or let anyone else use your account.
- You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
4. The Service
History Check is a web application that helps Game Masters record, transcribe, and summarise tabletop RPG sessions using artificial intelligence. It provides audio recording and transcription, AI-generated summaries and entity extraction, campaign and world management, and multi-user campaigns with player viewer access.
The App requires an internet connection. We may add, change, or remove features over time (see Section 17).
5. Recording Consent and Your Responsibilities
History Check records audio of tabletop sessions, which usually means recording more than one person, including people who are not History Check users.
- You are responsible for obtaining the consent of every person you record - before you start recording and before you upload a session.
- Recording laws vary by location. - Some places allow recording with the consent of one party; others require the consent of all parties. It is your responsibility to know and comply with the laws that apply to you and the people you record.
- If you invite other people (for example, players) to a campaign, you are responsible for the content you share with them and for ensuring you have the right to share it.
- You must not use History Check to record or process anyone unlawfully or without the consent the law requires.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these Terms.
- Record or upload content without the consent or rights required (see Section 5).
- Upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or that violates the rights or privacy of others.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except to the extent the law permits.
- Interfere with or disrupt the App, its servers, or its security, or attempt to gain unauthorised access.
- Upload malware or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities.
7. Subscriptions, Billing, and Renewals
Free Trial
- New accounts include a 30-day Free Trial measured from account creation, with Legend-tier recording limits (10 hours per session, 40 hours per month). Some extraction quotas may be lower during the trial.
- Trial eligibility is per account and based on account age. Cancelling a paid subscription does not extend or restore trial time.
- After the trial ends, an active paid subscription is required to create new sessions or record audio. Your existing data remains accessible.
Paid plans
- Paid plans (Expert, Master, Legend) are billed through Stripe on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, as shown on the pricing page.
- Prices are shown inclusive of any applicable taxes and are the total amount you pay. We are not VAT-registered.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for your plan, unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- You can cancel at any time from the Account screen or the Stripe Customer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.
8. Your Right to Cancel (Consumers)
If you are a consumer, you normally have the right to cancel a purchase within 14 days of buying it, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Because History Check is digital content and an online service that you can use immediately:
- When you subscribe and ask to start using the paid service straight away, you expressly consent to immediate access and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right to cancel once the service has been fully supplied, and that you will be charged for what you have used if you cancel a service part-way through the period.
- If you have not started using the paid features, you may still cancel within 14 days for a refund of that purchase.
To cancel within the cooling-off period, contact support@historycheck.app.
9. Refunds
Beyond your statutory rights, we handle refund requests reasonably and on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@historycheck.app within 14 days of a charge. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights as a consumer (see Section 18).
10. AI-Generated Content
- Summaries, entity extractions, scenes, and other AI outputs are generated by third-party AI (Google Gemini) and are provided to help you, not as a statement of fact.
- AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. You are responsible for reviewing and editing AI outputs before relying on them.
- We do not use your audio, transcripts, or campaign content to train third-party AI models, and under the API terms we operate, content sent to our AI and transcription providers is not used to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for details.
- This section does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer (see Section 18).
11. Your Content and Intellectual Property
- You keep ownership of the content you create or upload - (audio, transcripts, notes, campaign and world data).
- You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the App to you (including sending it to the third-party processors in Section 12). We do not claim ownership of your content and use it only to provide the App; any use to improve the service is limited to de-identified, aggregated data, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- The App itself, including its code, design, and branding, is owned by Annanil Entertainment Ltd and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App under these Terms.
12. Third-Party Services
- The App relies on third-party services (including AssemblyAI, Google Gemini, Resend, Stripe, Supabase, and Sentry) to function. All API keys for these services are managed server-side; you do not provide or manage any keys.
- These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for interruptions or changes caused by third-party providers, but this does not affect your statutory rights.
- We may add or change these providers as the App evolves. We keep the list in our Privacy Policy up to date and will give reasonable notice of material changes to the providers that process your content.
13. Data and Privacy
- Supabase is our cloud backend and the source of truth - for your data. Audio recordings and entity images are stored in Supabase Storage. The App does not keep a local database copy of your data.
- Our handling of your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
- We do not sell your personal data. - We process personal data in line with the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, and with other applicable data protection laws where they apply to us. Your rights (including access, correction, and erasure) and how to exercise them are set out in our Privacy Policy.
- Deleting your account permanently removes your data and cannot be undone. - If you need a copy of your data first, contact support@historycheck.app before deleting. We make reasonable efforts to maintain availability but, subject to Section 16, do not guarantee against data loss.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against reasonable losses, damages, and costs we incur arising from claims by a third party that result from:
- your recording or uploading of audio or other content without the consent or rights required (Section 5), or
- your unlawful or infringing use of the App that gives rise to a third-party claim.
This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own breach or negligence, and nothing in this section limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
15. Disclaimers
The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that AI-generated content or transcription will be accurate or complete, or that cloud services will always be available.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 that services be provided with reasonable care and skill and that digital content be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described.
Where the law gives you rights that cannot be excluded, the disclaimers in this section apply only to the extent the law permits.
16. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence,
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or
- any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under English law (including your non-excludable consumer rights).
Subject to the above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill; and
- our total liability for all claims arising from these Terms will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or GBP 50.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or failure to use reasonable care and skill, but not for anything outside that.
17. Changes to the Service and these Terms
- We may add, change, or remove features of the App, or stop offering it, where reasonable.
- We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will give you reasonable notice (for example by email or in the App) before it takes effect. If you do not agree to a change, you may cancel your subscription and stop using the App before the change takes effect; continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
- The current version is always posted at this URL with an updated “Last updated” date.
18. Your Statutory Rights and Complaints
- If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these Terms do not affect. For information about your rights, contact your local Citizens Advice or trading standards office.
- If you have a complaint, contact us at support@historycheck.app and we will try to resolve it. We aim to acknowledge complaints promptly.
- We are not obliged to use, and do not currently use, an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. If we cannot resolve a dispute, you may bring a claim in the courts (see Section 20).
19. Suspension and Termination
- You may delete your account at any time from the Account screen.
- We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms or use the App unlawfully. Where reasonable and lawful, we will give you notice and an opportunity to put things right.
- On termination, your account and data are deleted from Supabase. If you need a copy of your data, contact support@historycheck.app before deleting.
20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England & Wales, and the courts of England & Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in your local courts where the law allows.
21. General
- Severability: - if any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remain in full force.
- Entire agreement: - these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the App.
- Assignment: - we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms (for example, on a sale or restructuring of the business), provided this does not reduce your rights. You may not transfer yours without our consent.
- No waiver: - if we do not enforce a right, that is not a waiver of it.
- Force majeure: - we are not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including failures of third-party providers (such as AssemblyAI, Google, Supabase, Stripe, or Resend), internet or hosting outages, or other events outside our control.
